Yes, I've read Deacon's Symbolic Species, it's excellent insight that he employs semiotics to explain the development of symbol processing in humans. I'm however unsatisfied with how he frames how life evolved. He goes all in with the thermodynamics route with out stopping to see if the evolution of language might lead to greater clarity.
