Ockham’s razor isn’t a physics principle. It’s more like a principle of beauty (i.e. aesthetics). There is Kolmogorov’s theory of complexity, that expresses the relationship of the length of generators with complexity. Ockham’s razor expresses that a shorter generator length is preferred over a longer one. But why? Only because a shorter one is more prevalent a solution and therefore more likely.

In summary, the only reason Ockham’s razor should be used in constructing theory is with respect to the likelihood of a shorter theory. I don’t think though that there’s a principle in the universe that demands this.
